Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin says a Billingsley man reportedly was stalking a former girlfriend, and attacked her earlier today at a residence on Racetrack Road, off Ceasarville Road.

Franklin said that during the attack, the victim was able to gain access to a weapon and fire three times, with one bullet hitting the suspect in the jaw.

Franklin said deputies were called around 1:30 p.m. today to Racetrack Drive, near the community of Elmore. When they arrived they found George Lowery, 31, of Billingsley with injuries from a bullet, and the reported victim who admitted pulling the trigger.

The incident occurred at the alleged victim’s home, Franklin said, adding her identity was not being released at this time.

“This lady called us, and when deputies arrived they found the white male with injuries. They also discovered that Lowery had come on the woman’s property uninvited with a pry bar, handcuffs, binoculars and knives. He had been apparently videoing the victim in the past few days without her knowledge. This is a case of domestic violence with stalking and attempted burglary,” Franklin said. “We believe that Lowery tried to force himself on the victim, who tried him to stop and fought back. When Lowery did not stop, she had access to a weapon and fired three times. One of those shots hit Lowery in the jaw line and exited on the other side. Investigators said they saw him spitting out four to five teeth.”

Investigators called for help for the injured suspect and questioned the reported victim. They learned that the woman had prior issues with stalking from Lowery in another county. Lowery was transported to Baptist South for treatment.

Upon his release, Franklin said Lowery will face charges of Domestic Violence 2nd Degree Stalking and Attempted Burglary.

“From what we can determine, the victim was well within her rights to protect herself, and after she shot him, she held him at gunpoint until deputies arrived,” Franklin said. “He (Lowery) came to Elmore County and was up to no good.”

This case will be presented to a future Elmore County Grand Jury Franklin said.
