Saturday was another great event supporting the Prattville Autauga Humane Society as the annual Bark in the Park was held at Cooter’s Pond, where hundreds of residents and their pets came to enjoy a beautiful day of fundraising and fun.
This year’s event, which was the first one in two years, was very important to the shelter, said Claudia Rigsby, PAHS Director. “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” she said. “The funds go to caring for animals, and everything else. It’s mostly for animal care. We focus on the animals and whatever they need and all the medical things.”
Rigsby said that the event usually brings in somewhere around $10,000.
Vendors lined the park this year selling their pet-related wares as well as a raffle to raise funds and hot dogs being sold to hungry folks.
“We also sell T-shirts, there’s kids games and we have dogs for adoption,” Rigsby said. “We’ve had six or seven adopted today. That’s really good.”
The director added that she believes the event is getting bigger every year.
“There’s more people that love dogs and bring their dogs,” she said. “I don’t have a head count, but we have had hundreds and hundreds of dogs and folks come through. This is a fun thing to do to support the homeless animals of this county. We get to see dogs that we’ve adopted out in the past. People seem to enjoy it because it’s for a good cause.”
