Vehicle Pursuit in Millbrook leads to Arrest of Montgomery resident Jerry L. Stinson

FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at approximately 11:04 AM, Millbrook Police attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 3100 block of Main Street. When the patrol vehicle activated his emergency equipment, the vehicle, a 2005 Honda Accord, turned east onto Grandview Road, accelerated and refused to stop.

The vehicle continued on Grandview to Sandtown Road, continuing northbound at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. The vehicle continued northbound on Airport Road, continuing to Highway 14. The vehicle turned west onto Highway 14, left the roadway and came to rest in a field, near Friendly Pines Road. The offender fled from the scene on foot. Officers were able to apprehend the offender, later identified as Jerry L. Stinson, a 31-year-old Montgomery resident, after a brief foot chase and search of the area. Stinson was placed under arrest, being charged with Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement and Resisting Arrest. Stinson was transported to the Elmore County Jail, where posted a $2,000 bond.

We are extremely pleased that this situation ended with no one being injured. This individual turned a traffic violation into a very dangerous situation. His refusal to stop placed numerous people in danger. Had he simply stopped, he likely would have received a traffic citation in the worst case scenario.

Now, due to his reckless actions, this individual has been charged with two serious misdemeanors, which will more than likely result in him being sentenced to jail time should he be found guilty. Fleeing from law enforcement will never improve your situation. It’s best to stop immediately, comply with the officers and if you have an issue with a citation or arrest, that issue should be addressed in a courtroom. Unfortunately for this young man, all he accomplished by his actions was that he damaged his vehicle, got himself arrested and he went to jail tired.
