Millbrook Middle School hosted their inaugural First Responders Career Day on campus on March 31st. Over 1,200 children from fifth through eighth grade took part in this all-day event. Students were able to hear presentations from several divisions of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Montgomery Police Department Detective Division and Special Victims Unit, Millbrook Police Department, and the Millbrook Fire Department.
Each of the students learned what it takes to be on the State SWAT team, Detective Division, Rural Crimes, Narcotics, K-9, Troopers, police department, or be a part of the fire department. Millbrook Middle School is proud to be a partner with each of these groups.
The law enforcement career day event lasted throughout the entire day on campus. There were a total of nine different stations. About 60 students were at each of the nine stations.
A total of 23 law enforcement officers were able to come to the school. Students were able to ask questions, hold the special gear that law enforcement uses, and get up close to the K-9 dog as well. ALEA provided several of their divisions which included SWAT, ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control), Rural Crimes Unit, Major Crime and Crime Lab Unit, Aviation, Narcotics, K-9, and their Troopers. Millbrook Police Department, Millbrook Fire Department, and Montgomery Police Department Detective Division and Special Victims Unit were able to come and share information with students as well.
Dr. Renee Tucker is the seventh and eighth grade Assistant Principal for Millbrook Middle School and organized the event. On the day of event, the entire organization went smoothly, and it was a great experience and a great opportunity for all the students Tucker said.
“I want all these students to know there are other options in law enforcement. I could not ask for anything better about today because this event went so well for these students. I want to thank the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) for providing several of their divisions to our school, Millbrook Police Department, Millbrook Fire Department, Montgomery Police Department Detective Division and the Special Victims Unit. I would also like to thank our Principal, Sean Kreauter, for allowing me to organize and coordinate this entire event for our school,” said Tucker.

Tucker has been an administrator in Elmore County for the past five years. She has been in education for 22 years, most of these years teaching secondary science course for grades 7-12th. She is currently the 7/8th grade Assistant Principal.
Tucker is the 504 Coordinator, STEM Coordinator, Event Planning, and handles all of 7/8th grade discipline. She also handles the PBS (positive behavior support) and organizes all PBS rewards for grades fifth through eighth and works closely with all stakeholders. Tucker has an undergraduate degree in Biology, Masters in Biology Education, and Administration, and a PhD in Instructional Leadership. She credits her father as an inspiration to join the educational profession.
“We are extremely pleased with the exposure our students were able to see during our first responder career day event. Our students did a phenomenal job interacting with all presenters. Hopefully, it inspires someone to go into those career fields. Having been in law enforcement, I enjoyed watching the positive interactions happening between our students and our visitors,” said Sean Kreauter, Principal of Millbrook Middle School.
