Millbrook Council Updates Job Description for Court Chief Magistrate Position

With the recent termination of Millbrook’s longtime Chief Magistrate for the court department, the city has updated the job title and description, as they are looking to fill the position in the near future.

The starting salary for the position has a range of $52,000 to $72,000, based on experience.

However, the Minimum Qualifications recently approved by the City Council are:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Bachelors’ Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice or a related field preferred.

Three years of experience as a Municipal Court Magistrate.

Two years of supervisory experience.

Possession of a Magistrate certification approved through the Administrative Office of Courts.

The former Magistrate was terminated when it was discovered that bond forfeitures were not being done, as well as reported problems with court records not being updated.

Findings came to light concerning these and other issues when the city approved hiring a Court Consultant to come in and review the operation of the Millbrook Court system.

Currently those findings are still under investigation, and officials have declined to comment.
