SPORTS – SPECIAL TO THE EAN

PRATTVILLE — Both teams were scheduled to play in a tournament but the weather canceled the tournament, so Prattville and Tallassee elected to play a game against each other on Friday, with the Lions prevailing 7-5.

Chloe Baynes hit a solo homer in the top of the first to get the Tigers off to a quick lead, but Prattville regained the lead in the fourth as Jayden Kendrick hit a solo homer and Jessica Cord’s sacrifice fly scored a run for the Lions.

Cord picked up the win for Prattville, surrendering five runs on six hits over seven innings while striking out six. Chloe Davidson took the loss for Tallassee, allowing five hits and five runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one.

Pyper Castro, Kaytie Chandler and Sarah Jones each had two hits to lead the Lions’ 10-hit attack. Baynes went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Tallassee.

“This was a very good win for us against one of the best teams in the state regardless of classification,” Prattville coach Brian Pittman said. “Both teams went back and forth taking each other’s best shot. Great game that had a little bit of everything in it. Good win and confidence builder for our team heading into a big area game on Monday.

Prattville 15, Dothan 0

PRATTVILLE — The Lions’ bats came out ready in a big way to put away the Dothan Wolves 15-0 in an area game on Thursday.

Kaylee Robles went 2 for 3 with a double and a home run and drove in five runs, while Jessica Cord went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Kaytie Chandler went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Lions’ attack. Jayden Kendrick went 1 for 1 with an RBI and scored a pair of runs and Summer Jackson went 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Left-hander Kylie Jarman led the Lions in the circle, throwing three innings of no-hit ball, striking out four and walking one.

“The girls came out and set the tone early in the game offensively and never looked back,” Prattville coach Brian Pittman said. “Great way to start area play.”
