Bridges of Faith of Billingsley, Alabama
Pictured here is Natasha (not her real name), one of the precious Ukrainian orphans who visited the US with Bridges of Faith at Christmas. She is sleeping peacefully on the BOF van during her visit.
Natasha speaks English and is – right now – hunkered down outside of Kyiv. She waits for another BOF van to take her and her younger brother to Romania. I talk with her daily. One of the ways she occupies her very active mind is to count the number of times the air raid sirens go off each day. I don’t need to caption the obvious truth – no child should ever live this way.
She is one of the eight children we most wanted to help. These are kids who went back to Ukraine with families working toward their adoption. Two of them are already out of Ukraine in a refugee situation. Three more are moving out of the country. We have a vehicle moving toward these two right now.
I plan to leave this weekend for Romania. By Monday, we will have a team of six on the ground at several border crossings to meet up with the kids and to help with many others. On the team is a doctor and another healthcare worker. Of course, the entire situation is very fluid, changing by the moment.
We are working now on documents and relationships to get these kids through the embassy and on their way to the US. Senator Shelby is helping us with the Bucharest embassy.
