The Millbrook Police Department assisted the Montgomery Police Department today in locating a suspect in a Montgomery shooting incident.

Coty Talley, 20, was taken into custody at Stanhope Elmore High School by Millbrook Police officers this afternoon. He is now in the custody of the Montgomery Police Department and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle in Montgomery.

The incident occurred this morning after multiple shots were fired into an occupied vehicle along Interstate 65. WSFA reported the shooting happened around 10:15 a.m. today on I-65 northbound near West South Boulevard. Specific details of the shots fired were not immediately available, but Montgomery Police reported there were no injuries.

According to Elmore County Public Schools Supt. Richard Dennis, the capture of Talley did not require a lockdown of the school, and students were not in danger. The suspect was reportedly on school grounds with the intent of checking out a student, according to Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson.

“We were called by Montgomery PD to assist and we were happy to do so,” Johnson said. “The suspect vehicle was located by officers behind Circle K, and the suspect was in custody a short time later. We turned the subject over to Montgomery. This is not our case, but law enforcement in our area is fortunate that we have great working relationships.”
