Tallassee Council Releases Statement of Ongoing Investigation, Unrelated Arrest of Mayor Hammock

Statement from Tallassee City Council

The Tallassee City Council emailed the Elmore/Autauga News with an official statement this afternoon.

It reads:

“The Tallassee City Council has been working for months to address several reported issues in and around the city. Changes in personnel and procedures/processes have been made to address some of these issues, and the Council remains resolute in their mission to fix any remaining matters.

A resolution was passed unanimously by the Council on December 8th, 2021, to request official state assistance. The Council requests that citizens understand there is a process to receiving that assistance, and that any information that can be shared with the public will be disclosed as soon as possible.

In regards to the recent arrest of the Mayor, the Council respectfully reminds all citizens that all persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty. The Council is aware of the arrest and charge, and will move forward discussing options with legal counsel. The Council hopes for a quick resolution of all these matters.”

A search of jail records for Baldwin County by the EAN shows that Hammock’s bond was set at $20,000 for his Domestic Violence – Strangulation arrest over the weekend in Orange Beach. The Tallassee Tribune reports that Hammock remains in jail as he must have an address listed with the court before he can be released. The victim in the crime has reportedly filed a restraining order against Hammock.
