Autauga County Schools will not be returning to in-person learning tomorrow, January 18, according to Autauga County School Superintendent Tim Tidmore.

On the social media page for Autauga County Schools, it reads, “Due to the drastic increase in positive/isolated COVID cases in staff and faculty, all Autauga County Schools will be virtual January 18, 2022 through January 21, 2022.  In-person learning will resume Monday, January 24, 2022.”

Supt. Tidmore tells the EAN that the decision was made because “We couldn’t cover staff absences.”

He continued, “We simply do not have the staff, or substitutes, to drive buses, prepare breakfast or lunch. These decisions, while difficult, have to be made to keep our students and staff safe and healthy.”

In Elmore County, faculty and staff absences are also an issue due to Covid.

Richard Dennis has released his call-out update which states that due to the number of faculty and staff absences, Holtville Elementary, Wetumpka Elementary, Coosada Elementary and Airport Road Intermedia Schools will observe an e-day Tuesday, Jan. 18.

“All other Elmore County Public Schools will be on a regular schedule,” Dennis said. “We will evaluate the status of each school tomorrow and determine if we are able to adequately return for the next day and then notify parents and students,” Dennis said.

Parents are asked to be aware that bus routes in some areas will be delayed due to the shortage of drivers and substitute drivers. This situation may continue for the duration of the Covid spike.
