Millbrook resident Mrs. Mamie Oliver has been blessed with a long life and has been a benefit to her community with her knowledge and life experience.
She was a special guest at the Millbrook City Council meeting Tuesday, with Mayor Al Kelley presenting her a proclamation in honor of her upcoming 100th birthday.
Mayor Kelley said that Oliver believes in treating people with respect. She was the wife of the late Mr. Frank Oliver, who served in WWII and the Korean War. They were blessed with four children.
In his proclamation for Oliver, Kelley said, “She is a woman of great faith who loves her church family at Jackson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and served as a Conference Worker.”
Oliver says that her faith has sustained her all of these years.
She is an active grandmother with Boy Scout Troop 19 and is one of many that helped integrate the Elmore County School System. Oliver has three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mayor Kelley said, “She is dedicated to serving others and has gained the love and respect of many people from various backgrounds and ages. She is the oldest matriarch of the Oliver and Bradford families and will turn 100-years-old on Jan. 14, 2022.
With that, Mayor Kelley presented the proclamation to Mrs. Mamie R. Oliver with congratulations and best wishes for many years to come.
Oliver was surrounded by her family, posed for photos, and was given a standing ovation by the Council, Department heads and crowd.
The EAN would like to wish her a very happy birthday, and a huge thank you for all she has done for her community, church and her family. She is truly an inspiration.
