Basketball: SEHS Mustangs Beat Elmore County to Improve to 4-0

By Scott Nickerson, Sports Writer

The Mustangs came out of halftime and put to rest any doubt about the outcome of their home game against Elmore County Panthers. Leading by just six points at the half, Stanhope Elmore High outscored Elmore County by 16 points in the 3rd quarter to take a commanding 59-37 lead into the final period.

Cooper Wise hit a 3 point shot to push the lead to double digits in the decisive 3rd quarter, while Pat Williams and Nick Morgan both made three baskets each to extend the lead.

The Panthers were never able to cut the lead to single digits in the last quarter, as Pat Williams nailed two 3 pointers and Morgan chipped in another 4 points to guide Stanhope Elmore to a 76-55 win.

Morgan scored 17 points to lead the Mustangs in scoring, while Pat Williams added 14. Dylon Williams notched a double-double, scoring 15 points and a team high 12 rebounds. He was particularly effective in the first half, hitting two three pointers in the 1st quarter, and adding another 4 points in the 2nd quarter.

After a season opening win over Chilton County, and a home and away win over Booker T. Magnet Hight School, the win over Elmore County pushes the Mustangs’ record to 4-0. The Mustangs next outing will be a home contest against Calera High School on Monday. According to MaxPreps, Calera is just 1-4 on the season, but they have played a tough schedule with losses to Cullman, Homewood, Chelsea, and Enterprise. The Mustangs will end the week with two tough road games, next Thursday night at Tallassee and the following night in Clanton against Chilton County.
