Airport Road Intermediate School participated in the American Education Week for the week of November 15th through November 19th. Each day students were able to participate in various activities to support their school and teachers.

Students in the 3rd and 4th grade had a chance to do a writing contest and submit their writings for a prize. Prizes were given to one 3rd grader and one 4th grader that attended Airport Road Intermediate School.

The American Education Week activities were put on by the Parent Involvement Committee. Debbie Jones, librarian for Airport Road Intermediate School, enjoyed reading all of the writings submitted by students.

“I learned how students in the 3rd and 4th grade showed their perspective in their writings when it comes to their education,” said Jones.

3rd grade teacher Taylor Taunton and her class made a big poster that said “Thank you” and it was signed by all of the students and given to the lunch staff for Airport Road Intermediate School. The class went to the office to thank the staff too.

Many of the 3rd and 4th grade classes made posters, handmade cards, and wrote letters for the teachers and support personnel for Airport Road Intermediate School.

The winners for the writing contests were Maclaren Palmore for 3rd grade and Aniya Perry for 4th grade. Each of the winners received a gift bag each filled with goodies for them.

One day during the week the students dressed as their favorite career for career day. On Friday, the students dressed up in their school colors.

American Education Week is all about giving thanks to all of the educators. Teachers are unsung heroes, and we should all take the time and appreciate what they do for our children. They do not get enough recognition for all they do for nurturing our children and investing in our children. Please make sure you thank a teacher today. Below is the list of activities that the students did each day at the school.

  • MONDAY 11/15- What I love about my school day!
  • TUESDAY 11/16- Career Day! Students dressed up like someone in a career that interests them. Teachers invited some via Zoom to speak to their classes about their career. Students could ask questions. Aleshia Thomas talked to all of the 4th graders about her career as a Social Worker.
