Every year across Elmore County Schools, a teacher is represented and appreciated for going above and beyond by serving as a role model for their students, having the best interest for them, and gaining respect from not only the students but their colleagues as well.
At Holtville High, the staff nominates and votes on “Teacher of the Year.” Teachers can earn this prestigious award by treating their students fairly, going beyond an instructional level to make sure students’ emotional and physical needs are met, and having a positive relationship with their colleagues.
Holtville’s Teacher of the Year is Coach Trey Fetner. “Coach Fet” originally wanted to go to medical school but fell in love with serving kids on mission trips. After college and spending a year overseas on mission trips, Fetner knew he wanted to teach and be involved in sports.
He has been teaching since 2015 so this is his seventh year; his second at Holtville High School where he serves as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for all athletics and is an assistant coach for the football and baseball programs. Strength and conditioning are somethings that he is very passionate about.
Fetner says “Strength and Conditioning is a field that I am very passionate about. I had some great strength and conditioning coaches while I attended the University of South Alabama. Those men were some of my favorite coaches and they challenged me every day. I am very fortunate to be the strength and conditioning coach at Holtville. The class is important, especially for our athletes. Strength and conditioning have been scientifically proven to increase performance and increase health in athletes.”
Teacher of the Year nominees from each school in the district will go on to a district-wide nomination where Elmore County will select a Secondary and Elementary Teacher of the Year for the County.
“I am honored and humbled to receive teacher of the year at Holtville. I believe we have such a great staff assembled that anyone could have been considered for the honor. I am grateful that God has placed me in a place with awesome coworkers that have a passion to teach and love students.”
We wish Coach Fetner the best and are looking forward to his continued leadership at Holtville High. #GOBULLDOGS
