ECLECTIC, ALABAMA – The Little Witch Who Waits no longer waited in vain. Halloween brought out fairies, an invisible man (extremely hard to see), cartoon characters, video game pieces and even another witch to whom the Little Witch (Jaime DiGiovanni) happily handed out candy.
With the Halloween characters came hugs for the Little Witch, conversations about this spooky night, and smiles all around. Although the Little Witch began looking for Trick or Treaters at 5 p.m., no one showed for an hour. Mom explained that many churches and towns had Trunk or Treat that did not end until six p.m. No sooner did the first appear on her porch, than another group came running down the driveway.
Little Witch was all smiles as Mom took pictures. Occasionally she introduced her friend, Tommy Tomato Vine. Tommy managed to wind its way into the house and bring out three Cabbage Patch dolls Mom had promised to clean up for the library gift room. It then entwined them in its leaves and blossoms and babysat them during the festivities.
When the evening ended, Tommy reluctantly gave them back to Mom and settled back to be nothing more than a vine grown wild.
The Little Witch thanks everyone who made her Halloween such an incredibly special evening. She was in bed as this was written, a smile twitching the edges of her lips as she dreams of meeting many new friends. On November 1st, she stored her witch outfit away and returned to being the Little Woman who helps at the Senior Center.
