Over 250 children and their families came out to the annual Boo Fest that was held on Saturday October 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Village Green Park in Millbrook. The event was sponsored by the City of Millbrook Parks and Recreation Department. Boo Fest began in 2014, and the only year that the children were not able to attend was in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. Boo Fest is all about the children dressing up in their costumes, having fun, enjoying the games, and bringing home lots of candy. Everything was FREE for the children as well.
This year 12 vendors were on site handing out candy and letting the children play games. The City of Millbrook Parks and Recreation Department handed out bags if the children did not have one, and also put candy in the bags as well. One of the perks about coming this year if you attended, the City of Millbrook Parks and Recreation Department set out small real pumpkins throughout the park. If a child saw one that they liked, they were able to pick it up and take it home with them along with their candy. The City of Millbrook purchased all the pumpkins from Ingram’s Farmers Market & Garden Center in Millbrook.
Robbie Heath is the Assistant Director for the City of Millbrook Parks and Recreation Department. “I want to thank all of the vendors that came out and participated for our annual Boo Fest. We love all of our kids here in Millbrook,” said Heath. The Parks and Recreation Department began setting up tables and pumpkins throughout the park at 7:00 a.m. They also purchased all the candy and also gave bags of candy for distribution to the children for the Millbrook Police Department, the Millbrook Street Department, and the Utility Department. The other vendors that came provided their own candy to distribute to the children and everyone had plenty of candy to take home with them as well.
Realty Connection, one of the 12 vendors that attended Boo Fest did a raffle for a glass vase of full-size chocolate bars. The winner of the raffle contest was Kimberly Burnett. Burnett came out to the event right before it was over, and her children took home plenty of candy and she won the raffle as well. Boo Fest is a wonderful time for all the children to be dressed up in their costumes and interacting with everyone at the event. Children enjoyed the games, interacted with all of the police officers that attended, learning about the firetruck from the firemen and taking pictures with the Chief of police, P.K. Johnson.
“I think Parks and Recreation did an outstanding job and I appreciate them inviting us to participate in their event. I saw a lot of young people enjoying themselves today and that’s what it’s all about. Events like this are what makes our city what it is. It adds to the quality of life that our citizens enjoy. Thank you for being there today,” said Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson.
