SPECIAL TO THE ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

COOSADA ELEMENTARY – The Coosada Fire Department embarked on a trip to Coosada Elementary last week but no emergency was involved! It was for a day of fire safety education for first graders at the schools.

The children received instruction on the proper use of 911 and various home fire safety tips. After the classroom instruction they were escorted through a smoke maze where they had to crawl to safety through cotton candy smoke.

While navigating their way out of the smoky house they were instructed to feel the doors to determine if fire was on the other side, one of which was actually a hot door. As the children navigated their way out they were able to exit either by climbing out a window and down a chain ladder or by through a door.

The children, and volunteers were all smiles. After completing the smoke building, the children were brought to look at waiting fire apparatus and Coosada Police Vehicles. Pictures were taken with the classes along with a Coosada Fire Engine.
