On October 16, 2021, the Marbury High School Northstars Marching Band travelled to Opp, Alabama to compete in Opp High School’s “Little Big Horn” Marching Band Contest. The Northstars practiced for months to make their show, Rio Carnival, the best it could be for contest.
Northstars staff, Band Director Brett Johnson, Assistant Director Sean Handerhan, Woodwind Instructor Kelsey Bowles, and Auxiliary Director Miranda Muir-Peak, encouraged the Northstars at every practice and helped each student be successful.
It is safe to say that the hard work put in by both the Northstars and their staff paid off. At the contest, the Northstars scored all ones, the highest rank awarded by the judging panel. In addition to scoring ones, the dance line and the color guard won best in class, receiving the highest score out of all the other color guards and dance lines from our class that participated in the contest.
The contest was an extremely successful one for the Northstars Band, as they were able to add eight trophies to their trophy case. It was a rewarding day for all the instrumentalists and auxiliary members.
