On Tuesday night, the Tallassee City Council went into executive session. When they came out they unanimously voted to remove Hammock as the Superintendent of Utilities. No explanation was given for this decision, and council members and/or other city officials have not responded to requests for comment. The City Attorney has told council members to not speak to media on this matter at this time.
TALLASSEE, AL — Mayor John “Johnny” Hammock is responding to political attacks and retribution by members of the Tallasee City Council after being removed as Superintendent of Utilities in Tallassee by members of the council. This action occurred without public discussion, without public opinion, and in the secrecy of executive session, which prevents any real knowledge of the reasons for the action; but the reason is clear:
“Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, I’ve been working to bring to light numerous fraudulent, illegal, and outright disgusting abuses of the federal Paycheck Protection Program by those who attempted to live above the law– in some cases those folks were community leaders. These individuals know who they are, as does the FBI and local law enforcement. When they found out I was exposing their corruption, this effort to smear me began.” Hammock said.
Since becoming Mayor and Superintendent of utilities, Mayor Hammock has fought to bring quality jobs, reinvest infrastructure, increase city transparency in government, reduce wasteful spending, and work with state and federal officials to bring the best economy Tallassee has had to date.
Hammock went on to say, “I’m not going to sit by and watch my city and community get ripped off and abused by the same people who are supposed to be helping our city grow. Corruption is corruption– and I’m not going to tolerate it. They can take my job away, they can run me through the dirt and sling mud all they want, but I’m not going to stop fighting for what I believe and what the people of Tallassee deserve.” John Hammock has been a small business owner for the majority of his adult life. He is the
former co-owner of the famed establishment, “The Booth” in Tuscaloosa, AL, as well as the current co-owner of a pet grooming and kennel business in Tallassee (Urban Tails).
“Our City Council must be better. They must start putting the needs of our citizens above their own personal agendas, and self interest. The people of Tallassee deserve better. I’ve fought hard as Mayor to stand up for our city. They may think I work for them, but I don’t; I work for the people of Tallassee.”
John Hammock is a Republican Candidate for Public Service Commission place #1. He is amember of the Elmore County Republican Party, small business owner, husband, and a father.
The Republican Primary will be on May 24th, 2022.
