Autauga County Commission To Resurface County Road 19; Declares October Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Shortly after convening Tuesday afternoon, the Autauga County Commission went into executive session for nearly an hour to discuss personnel matters in the Revenue Department and unrelated upcoming events.

No one attending that meeting would discuss details about the session, as the contents of such meetings are confidential. An executive session is closed to the public and is typically held within a meeting otherwise open to the public. Very generally, executive sessions often occur when discussion involves legal issues and personnel issues, but Alabama’s Open Meetings Act allows for nine reasons that a government entity can go into executive session”

The Commission took no action on the termination of one employee, approved new job descriptions in the Clerk’s office, and approved the promotions and transfers of several employees.

The Commission also approved a proclamation declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A representative from the Family Sunshine Center was present for the vote.

The mission of the Family Sunshine Center is to end family violence, sexual assault and human trafficking; foster hope and healing; offer immediate response and a safe haven in crisis; provide advocacy, counseling and support for victims; empower victims to lead safe, violence-free lives; and to promote community awareness through education and training.

Autauga’s Emergency Management Agency Director Ernie Baggett and the Commission signed the state portion of an agreement on a federal grant. The agreement is part of a 2021 Emergency Management Personnel Grant.

County Engineer John Mark Davis announced that County Road 19 will be resurfaced from the pavement joint just north of Autauga Northern Railroad Crossing to the Chilton County line. The Commission also accepted the resignation of Assistant Engineer Jacob Thomas and voted to advertise the job opening.

The Commission also approved a resolution to renew participation in the CRS Workers Compensation Fund through September 30, 2024.

The Commission’s next meeting will be October 19th at 5 p.m. in the Administrative Building at 135 North Court St in Prattville. For more information, contact the Commission Office at 334-358-6700.
