A group of homeschoolers and their parents were special guests at the Millbrook City Council meeting Tuesday.
As part of their education, the students were learning about city government and departments. The group was introduced by Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley, and then given a tour after the meeting of the Police and Fire Departments. Police Chief P.K. Johnson walked them through his department. Following that tour, the kids were in luck as Tuesday night is training for the Millbrook Fire Department.
“There is just something about little kids and big trucks,” Mayor Kelley said with a smile. The group were able to meet some firefighters, see some of the equipment the fire department has, and enjoy a special tour.
Kayleb Zeigler, 5, was excited to wear his fire department uniform and was invited to the front to have a chat with Mayor Kelley. Then the group took a seat in council member’s chairs.
“I love it when kids get involved in learning about city government,” Mayor Kelley said. “And that one right there (Kaleb in the firefighter suit) may be a junior fireman one day. Start them early.”
