If you’re looking to get the kids away from screens and get outside to enjoy some family time in a laid-back, family-friendly environment, the Prattville Farmer’s Market at The Grove is the perfect place for you. Next Saturday is the final market for the Summer season, so mark your calendar.
Located just a few blocks off of Main Street, on Doster Road across the street from the Gillespie Senior Center, The Grove is a shady spot that is perfect for keeping cool on a summer day.
This morning cars from several surrounding counties could be seen among those parked near the market. The overcast sky, along with the trees that dot the grove, kept everyone cool and relaxed as they browsed among the dozen or more booths.
Kevin Dodd, from Prattville Honey Farm, has been coming to the farmer’s market for over five years and owner Allen Mills was coming even before that.
Another long-time vendor is L&D Farms, located on River Mills Loop in Deatsville. Owners Dale and Linda Hurst say they have been coming for eight years. Their booth features red and green tomatoes, okra and Japanese eggplant.
Other vendors at the market this morning included Evans Farms selling peaches, tomatoes, and squash, Shana’s Place from Shorter, AL selling bacon jam and brisket burgers, as well as Coach’s Que Barbeque and Catering selling smoked bacon and smoked bratwurst.
If you missed Saturday’s event you have one more chance next Saturday August 28th, before the summer comes to an end. However, we learned some good news today. There will be one fall market day on Saturday October 9th.
The Prattville Farmer’s Market is managed by Prattville Parks and Recreation Department and is held on from June through August on Saturdays 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., every summer.
