MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT
Top Photo is the drivers license photo of the suspect, not a mugshot.
On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, Millbrook police were conducting a traffic investigation on Main Street, near Newton Lane. Officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The vehicle’s occupant exited the vehicle and fled eastbound across traffic and into an adjacent yard.
Officers deployed a Taser, which ended the pursuit. The subject, later identified as Nicholas T. Shipman, a 31-year-old Montgomery resident, was placed under arrest, being charged with Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement and Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree. Shipman was treated at the scene by Millbrook paramedics and transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under a $1,500.00 bond.
Upon satisfaction of bond Shipman will face outstanding felony warrants from the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department and Tallapoosa County.
I will never understand why people think fleeing from law enforcement will help their situation. By his own admission, this young man was aware that he was wanted on outstanding felony warrants, so there was no doubt that he was going to be arrested. He fled across one of our busiest thoroughfares during lunch time traffic, placing himself, officers and the motoring public in danger. All he succeeded in doing was adding additional charges to the issues he already faces. He probably missed lunch and he most definitely went to jail tired! I appreciate the efforts of our officers in keeping our citizens safe each day.
