On August 13, 2021, Millbrook police received intelligence that a 2021 Jeep Gladiator, reported stolen out of New Jersey, was possibly in the Millbrook area. Millbrook police officers observed the vehicle on Duncan Drive, near Main Street.

Victor M. Long Jr., a 36-year-old Millbrook resident, was taken into custody after the vehiclewas confirmed stolen. The vehicle was impounded and processed for physical evidence. Long was transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where he was later placed under arrest, having been charged with Receiving Stolen Property 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Long was then transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he was placed in custody under a total bond of $10,500.

I want to commend our patrol officers, our Street Crimes Unit and our Criminal Investigations Unit for the way this arrest and investigation was handled. We were contacted by investigators from the Montgomery Police Department with regard to a vehicle that had been reported as stolen out of New Jersey, which had apparently been tracked to and sighted in both Montgomery and the Millbrook area.

Our officers had been on the lookout for the vehicle for several days when it was spotted Friday. They observed the vehicle stopped at a makeshift carwash and made contact with the driver, who was outside the vehicle when approached. Rather than take a chance on allowing the individual to get back into the vehicle and chance a vehicle pursuit, the officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident.

While inventorying the vehicle’s contents, investigators located an amount of what appeared to be marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a 7.62 millimeter pistol, hence the additional charges.

After speaking with our investigators, who have been in contact with New Jersey law enforcement officials, it appears that Mr. Long may face additional charges in New Jersey related to the theft of the 2021 Jeep Gladiator that he was in possession of in our jurisdiction. If that is the case he may face extradition to New Jersey to face charges there once he’s released on our charges. Everyone involved did an outstanding job.
