Jonathan Buckner, 16, of Troop 25 recently completed his Eagle Scout project at Robinson Springs United Methodist Church and he, his family and other Scouts were recognized at the Millbrook City Council meeting last week.
“Jonathan is a student at Prattville High School. He has been in the Scouts since he was six-years-old,” Council President Michael Gay said. “He is currently a Life Scout working on his Eagle Scout rank. He completed his Eagle Scout project in May here in Millbrook. The Eagle Scout project was at Robinson Springs United Methodist Church in which he constructed a handicap ramp into the annex building to be used as part of their Fishes and Loaves ministry where they provide food to the needy and the community. There are other ministries as well that use that building. He saw additional needs, such as landscaping, playground maintenance work and a Gaga pit.”
Buckner led the effort, with assistance from fellow Scouts and his father.
“The project was needed in the church and talked about for a good bit of time. It had been an idea floating around for several years to have a ramp on the annex building,” Buckner said. “I took that as my opportunity for my Eagle Scout project. I have also been attending that church for a long, long time. I appreciate the church very much. I figured I could contribute to it.”
“I love seeing these young people involved in things,” Mayor Al Kelley said. “Nothing excites me more than seeing these young people involved and doing things. It tickles me pink to know that one of these days when I am gone, we have young folks coming on and will take over.”
