FROM AUBURN UNIVERSITY AT MONTGOMERY
Auburn University at Montgomery will offer scholarships – including one worth $2,500 – and other rewards for Fall 2021 students who have either received or will obtain COVID-19 vaccinations.
AUM’s Vaccination Incentive Program (VIP) is open to students enrolled for the Fall 2021 semester who receive a full COVID-19 vaccine or were fully vaccinated earlier in the year.
Each student who participates in the program will receive $200 grants and will be entered into random drawings for other prizes, including a $2,500 scholarship, five $1,000 scholarships, three campus housing scholarships, Apple iPads, and bookstore and dining vouchers, among other items.
Public health experts have emphasized that COVID-19’s Delta variant presents a growing threat to younger populations.
“The COVID-19 pandemic remains a significant public health hazard for our community, state and nation,” AUM Chancellor Carl A. Stockton said. “As AUM Warhawks, we have a saying – Protect Your Nest. We have remained consistent in recommending vaccinations to our students and employees as a means of protecting each other, as well as the in-person learning and social opportunities that enrich the college experience.
“As a civic-minded, partnership-oriented university, we have an obligation to help reduce the stress that our healthcare providers and communities are experiencing.”
AUM’s VIP initiative also offers rewards for student organizations and housing residence halls that achieve a 75 percent vaccination rate. Beginning Friday, AUM students will be able to register for the incentive program at: https://www.aum.edu/vip/.
AUM begins fall semester classes on Monday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, AUM has provided $4.8 million in federally funded grants to students. The university plans to provide additional payments to students who attend classes during the Fall 2021 semester.
As part of its COVID-19 protocols, AUM is requiring students and employees to properly wear face coverings when in classrooms and other shared indoor spaces on campus.
Since February, AUM has administered Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines to more than 4,000 students, employees and community members with no adverse incidents reported beyond expected side effects. The university is hosting a community vaccination clinic today at its Wellness Center from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
