For people in Millbrook wanting to do something on a Thursday evening, look no further than the Village Green, says Mayor Al Kelley.

The City of Millbrook is currently in the midst of the 3rd Annual Tunes on the Green Summer Concert Series, which takes place at the Village Green at 6:30 p.m. several Thursdays throughout the months of June and July.

Their next concert will feature Alabama Native and American Idol Contestant, Brandon Elder, on July 15. He is the third performer in the concert series’ four-part summer event.

Each concert features food and refreshments, like hotdogs, fries, funnel cake, nachos, sodas and more from area food trucks. It’s a great chance to enjoy some great food and interact with the people of Millbrook, says Mayor Al Kelley.

“It’s a nice evening out, and always has fantastic music and groups. People want to socialize with other people, and what better way to do it than in a concert setting,” Kelley said.

Kelley went on to explain that the city has heard great reviews about the event, and that they hope to potentially expand their musical performances to Friday night as well.

“Just come down, bring a blanket or a lawn chair and let’s take advantage of some of the great things happing in Millbrook,” Kelley said.

Scott Davis, Director of Parks and Recreations for the City of Millbrook, said that having local performers has been a nice touch. People like Ben Norris, Bama Breeze, and Trey Gothard (all local artists) have performed at the event in the past.

Others who have performed before, like Elder, were attracted in more unconventional ways.

“I was golfing with my brother in Madison, AL last year, and we happened to be on the course with [Brandon] Elder at the same time. I asked him if he’d like to travel south and give the Tunes on the Green a chance and he was all in,” Davis said. “He told us that he really enjoyed his time here, and he’s looking forward to performing in Millbrook again.”

Like Kelley, Davis says the local performances, crisp evenings, and delicious food is what makes the concert series so appealing.

“It’s a great venue. I urge anyone who’s not been down here to check it out, and I hope to continue to see those who have already come out to keep doing so. What better way to enjoy your Thursday night than under the stars at the Village Green, listening to music of all genres,” Davis said.

But it’s not just public officials who enjoy the event. Citizens of Millbrook can’t seem to stop coming back, like Rosalee Wade, who has been attending the concert series for the past two years.

“I just love it, and I tell people all about it. It’s so popular with me and friends, and we really can’t get enough of it. I honestly wish they would have it even more,” Wade said. “It’s a family friendly atmosphere, and has music for all ages. There’s really something for everybody.”

Wade said that everyone there knows each other, and that shows the tight knit community that Millbrook has made for itself over the years.

“It’s a special time,” Wade said.

For families and individuals wanting to bring beverages, coolers are allowed. Alcohol is not permitted and the event is FREE to the public.

The summer concert series will have one more performance after Elder on July 29th, with an appearance from Charlie C. and the Cuzamatics. The band plays classic rock tunes that will have the audience standing on their feet, taking a trip back to the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
