On May 17, 2021, the Central Alabama Community College Division of Nursing was recognized and commended by the Alabama House of Representatives for their role in assisting state agencies in providing Covid-19 vaccinations to over 10,000 state officials, state employees, retirees, and their dependents.

“I am very proud of our students and the faculty and staff who helped administer vaccines during a time of extreme need,” Jeff Lynn, president of CACC mentioned.

“Our students continue to step up and answer the call, no matter the circumstances or situation, and that is a testament to their hard work and dedication.”

For six weeks, forty-eight nursing students participated in this event. The clinic was open 3 days each week during that time. The vaccine clinic was operated by the State Wellness Center in conjunction with the State Employees’ Insurance Board in Montgomery.  Because of the help from the CACC nursing students, the state of Alabama was able to test and vaccinate thousands at no additional cost to the state.

“We are blessed to have outstanding students at CACC,” Jennifer Steele, Director of Nursing at CACC said.

“We are always happy to serve wherever needed. These great learning experiences do not come without the hard work from dedicated faculty, the support from nursing administration, and the college administration.”
