Alana Acreman among 14 scholarship winners in Southeast

BILLINGSLEY, Ala. – ClearWater Solutions, which manages the public works, water and wastewater systems for numerous communities in the Southeast, recently announced that Alana Acreman of Billingsley High School was chosen as a winner of a ClearWater scholarship for 2021. Acreman is one of 14 well-deserving graduating seniors at high schools in areas served by ClearWater who were awarded the $1,000 scholarships.
Members of the Billingsley Town Council were on hand recently to congratulate Acreman.
“We are delighted and honored to be able to continue to recognize the hard work of bright and talented students like Alana,” ClearWater Regional Manager Torrey Jones said. “We congratulate her, as well as all of the graduating seniors in Billingsley.”
Jones noted that ClearWater increased the number of scholarships it awarded from two in 2019, to 10 last year and to 14 this year. Two of the 14 scholarships were awarded to dependents of ClearWater employees.
“We believe assisting students in obtaining a college education is a great investment in the communities we serve,” company President Rick Ailiff said. “A community does well when its young people do well, and a college education, for many young people, is the key that unlocks the door to opportunities and success.”
Those opportunities include higher potential earning power. A study last year, for example, found that a student with an associate degree from a two-year community college can expect to earn about $7,300 more a year than peers with only a high school diploma. A four-year college degree adds, on average, another $18,000 a year in earning. Unemployment rates are also substantially lower for those with some college education.

- Groves High School, Garden City, Ga. – Ash’ana Burns
- Marion County High School, Buena Vista, Ga. – Noelia Morales
- Swainsboro High School, Swainsboro, Ga. – Tyler Kelly
- Gautier High School, Gautier, Miss. – Justin Thomas
- Horn Lake High School, Horn Lake, Miss. – Kaitlyn Young
- Moss Point High School, Moss Point, Miss. – Jalynn Scott
- Belton-Honea Path High School, Honea Path, S.C. – Carter Gaines
- Pendleton High School, Pendleton, S.C. – Addie Buchanan
Winning students can use their scholarships in any college or technical school in pursuit of the degree of their choice. High school academic performance, community involvement and financial need were considered in choosing the winners.
