City of Millbrook Preparing for 2021 Farmers Market

The City of Millbrook is gearing up to host their 11th annual farmers market this summer and it’s expected to be a good one.

The market, which will take place on the Village Green every Tuesday starting May 18th – August 17th from 7:00 a.m. – 12 p.m., will provide Millbrook residents with an assortment of fresh produce, plants, meats, and other locally made products.

Chuck Burns, Market Manager, says that the excitement around the event has reached new heights.

“Well, I think people are just ready and get out and do something. COVID has shut down so many things over the past year, so having this market is really going to give our community something to consistently go out and do over the summer. I’ve had more phone calls this year than I’ve ever had before with people asking me questions,” Burns said.

“We’re very excited to kick-off our 14-week farmers market because it helps our local growers have a direct market for their product,” says Ann Harper, Economic Development Director for the City of Millbrook. “It helps to bring people to our community by reaching individuals from a wide variety of locations.”

Harper says the goal of the market is to provide fresh, locally grown food and products to Millbrook and surrounding communities.

“Not only does the farmers market support your local growers, but it gives people a healthy, fresh alternative of foods to eat. When you come here, you know that this produce was just picked or that this cornbread was just baked,” Harper explained.

Harper did acknowledge that many people are still working from home due to COVID, and encouraged them to come by the market if they find a break in their work.

“It’s been a tough year for a lot of people, but we still want to provide this service to the community. It takes place out on the lovely Village Green, so the setting and atmosphere for our market is going to be top notch,” Harper said.

The Market will still take safety precautions due to COVID and will have hand sanitizer located at various stations.

“If you’re not feeling well, just try to come back another Tuesday. We’re not going anywhere else during that 14-week stretch,” Harper said.

The Millbrook Farmers Market is affiliated with the Alabama Farmers Market Authority, which was established to assist in the marketing of agricultural products by providing information, leadership, and modern facilities necessary to move agricultural products from the farm to the consumer.
