Drug Take Back Day: 311 Pounds of Prescription Drugs Turned in at Jones Drugs of Millbrook

BY CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

I want to thank our very own Jones Drugs and Pharmacist Penny Hamilton for participating in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Drug Enforcement Agency officials and Millbrook Police partnered with Jones Drugs to secure 21 boxes at their Millbrook store, which contained over 311 pounds of prescription drugs that were turned in by area residents.

These are drugs, which are mostly expired, that were most likely stored unsecured in the drug cabinets and pantries of area households. As a parent and grandparent, as well as a law enforcement officer, one of my biggest fears is that of a child getting their hands on dangerous drugs and taking them.

It only takes seconds for a tragedy to occur. This helps alleviates that possibility and helps eliminate the possibility of these unwanted or unneeded drugs being stolen and sold on the street. Prescription drugs are at the top of the list of the most abused drugs in our society.

Hats off to Jones Drugs and the great folks on their staff for helping make our community a safer place to live and providing a much-needed service to our citizens. Great Job everyone!!!!
