Editor’s Note: This is not a “Pick on Pit Bulls” article. Having been bitten by several dogs myself, I can say with authority most were Chihuahuas in my case, and I am just thankful they only weighed two pounds at best.)

A Pit Bull in Prattville has been quarantined after reportedly jumping a fence Monday afternoon and attacking a 6-year-old boy who was playing with some other children in his neighborhood.

The incident occurred near Honeysuckle Drive and Danya Drive around 5 p.m.

The child’s parent and adult neighbors were able to intervene and pulled the dog off of the boy. The victim was left with serious injuries to his leg. He was taken for medical care and is recovering, according to Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson.

“We have the dog quarantined, and have requested an emergency order to have a hearing concerning the dog,” Thompson said. “The child has been treated and we are just moving forward to do whatever needs to be done.”

Thompson said that, to his knowledge, his officers have never been called in reference to other issues with this particular animal.

A neighbor told the EAN she is not aware of police ever being contacted prior to Monday, but there were concerns about the animal voiced among neighbors. The neighborhood is in close proximity to Prattville Intermediate School.

We will update this story as we are able.
