Funeral Services Set for Former Coosada Mayor Frank Houston

Funeral services will be held on Monday for former Coosada Mayor Frank Rives Houston at Millbrook First United Methodist Church (Millbrook FUMC). 

Houston, 80, died peacefully at home on Wednesday in the presence of family.

The Rev. Dan Morris, senior pastor of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Jerry May, senior pastor of Millbrook FUMC, will officiate the service. Houston will lie in state from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. and the funeral service starts at 11 a.m.  The interment will follow the service at Rives Cemetery in Coosada.

Houston was Mayor of Coosada for 31 years and retired from Alfa Insurance after 37 years. He resigned as mayor in 2013 and was the town’s first mayor when it officially became a municipality in 1975. He was a member of Millbrook FUMC and a graduate of Huntingdon College.

Houston was preceded in death by his parents Leonard Preston Houston and Matilda Rives Houston, his wife Mildred “Mit” Cobb Houston, daughter Frances Bernice Houston and brother Robert “Rob” Houston. He is survived by his sons Steve Houston (Sandy), Jim Houston (Donna), brother John Houston (Rita), grandchildren Cole Houston, Reagan Houston, Tyson Houston, Jarrett Houston, Cody Cowan (Lauren), and Nick Cowan.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Jarrett Houston, Cole Houston, Cody Cowan, Nick Cowan, Tyson Houston and Kenny Wayne Boyer.
