Autauga Prattville Public Library has Easter Surprise for Local Children

In a normal year, the Autauga Prattville Public Library would be preparing for their annual, in-person Easter egg hunt.

With COVID restrictions limiting persons to small gatherings, the APPL has amended their typical event to fit guidelines and regulations.

The library will be holding a “Rock Hunt for Easter” event which will still have all the fun and excitement of a normal year. Instead of an in-person search, the APPL will be hiding golden rocks all throughout the downtown area.

“We wanted to keep the same type of event that families typically enjoy on Easter, but slightly modify it to keep people safe and healthy,” said Rachel Parlier, Programing Librarian at APPL. “We’re really excited to try something new, and we think that kids in the area are going to absolutely love it.”

It’s not just about the hunt, however. It’s also about what you receive if you find one of the exclusive golden eggs.

“Families who find one of the eggs will need to bring it back to the library where they will receive their prize. Right now, we have lots of different baskets to give away, with goodies such as squish toys, dinosaurs and, of course, lots and lots of candy,” Parlier said.

The library is already planning out some of their hiding spots and will have each egg hidden before March 29th. Those wanting to participate in the event will be able to do so from March 29th – April 3rd.

“We have been working diligently to be there for the community during this pandemic, and if that means that we have to modify things to still be engaged with local families, then that’s what we’re going to do,” Parlier said.

The earlier you get out there and start hunting the better, Parlier explained.

“We hope to have enough prizes to give away to everyone, but this is a ‘while supplies last’ type of event. So, go ahead and start planning your strategies with your friends and family. We hope to see as many people out there as possible,” Parlier said.
