Autauga County teachers and staff members were notified today that the school system has partnered with Auburn Montgomery (AUM) to provide COVID-19 vaccinations at the university’s Wellness Center on Friday.

Autauga County School Superintendent Tim Tidmore said AUM has 320 doses available for teachers and staff members. “We sent a link to employees today and encouraged them to sign up for the vaccine (first or second doses),” he said.

Tidmore said he is working to get additional substitute teachers to cover classes while teachers are out getting the vaccinations.

“I was just saying in our staff meeting this morning that we needed to find a way to get them (staff and teachers) vaccinated. Coincidentally, I got a call from AUM that afternoon asking if we would partner with them to get our employees vaccinated.”

He said the Friday clinic was something he and his staff have been working towards that sort of fell into his lap.  Shots will be given 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and then 12:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m..

Tidmore said although he doesn’t have specific numbers, many teachers and employees have already taken the shots. He said he thinks 320 doses should cover the majority of people in the school system who have not been vaccinated.

Tidmore said he waited in the line of cars at the old Montgomery Mall /fire station location on February 8th because he knows the need for the shot up close and personal. His mother passed away from COVID-19 a few weeks ago.

“We knew she and daddy had it,” Tidmore said. “By the time she got to the hospital, she was in CCU for three days and then on the ventilator for three days before she died,” he said.
