ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

Christmas was officially welcomed to Millbrook by Mayor Al Kelley Thursday Night as Village Green ignited with color, lights and even a little snow.

Remember, the Millbrook Christmas Parade will be held Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. downtown on Main Street from Smokehouse Barbecue to Village Green Park. Please consider bringing a canned good to the stage in the park before or after the parade. Donations will be given to the WELCOME Food Pantry in Millbrook.

The Christmas Festival begins Saturday prior to the parade at 9 a.m. with a record number of food and crafts vendors, as well as live entertainment. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the Gazebo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for FREE photos, courtesy of Valley Bank and Chrietzburg Photography. Each child will receive a stuffed animal that has their photo taken with Santa (until they run out.)

Please maintain social distancing and wear a mask to follow COVID-10 CDC regulations.

Children will not sit on Santa’s lap for the photographs, but will be able to talk to Santa and have their photo made.

TREE LIGHTING THURSDAY –

Thursday night a crowd arrived that enjoyed the concessions sold by the Stanhope Elmore High School Diamond Club. Clemency was on stage leading the crowd in Christmas Carols. Pastor Janet Krantz, with Robinson Springs United Methodist Church, opened the event with a prayer and told the story of Christmas and the birth of Jesus.

Dancers from the Millbrook Middle School Dance Team performed a Christmas routine for the crowd, and then it was tree lighting time.

Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley welcomed everyone to the evening saying, “This is all for the kids. We look forward to this every year, and it takes a lot of people to pull it off. I am so thankful for the Spirit of Christmas Committee and all of our departments that have worked to light up the town and the park. This is just a special time of year, and we are proud everyone came out for this event.”

With a countdown of 10, the city’s new tree exploded with light, and snow began to fall! Thanks to a snow machine, families reveled and played in the lights, catching the snowflakes. The 23-foot artificial tree was purchased this year. It allows for the city to add height to the tree each year.

Afterward everyone’s attention turned to the Millbrook Middle School and Stanhope Elmore High School Bands that played a series of Christmas songs for the crowd in front of the Gazebo.

We will be out at Village Green Park all day tomorrow covering the events. We hope you will be able to come out and enjoy the Festival and Parade, but if not we will have loads of photos to post afterward.
