Prattville Chosen to Host the Americans for the Arts Workshop Nov. 9; One of Only Four USA cities

FROM BARBARA W. SIMPSON

Cultural Arts and Special Events Manager | City of Prattville

The City of Prattville is pleased to have been chosen to host the Americans for the Arts workshop, Artists at the Community Development Table, on Monday, November 9.  This workshop is sponsored by Americans for the Arts and is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Prattville was chosen as one of only four cities in the USA to host one of these workshops.  It was originally scheduled during March, but was postponed due to the COVID19 pandemic.  There will be two local artists and community leaders who will be featured speakers for the workshop:  Charlie “Tin Man” Lucas, internationally acclaimed artist from Prattville, and Bill Ford, artist and President of the Montgomery Arts Council.

Both of these gentlemen bring a wealth of talent and knowledge of the community to this workshop, along with the representatives of Americans for the Arts who will share ideas and information from other communities across the United States.

This workshop will be held on Monday, November 9, at the Doster Community Center in Prattville and is free and open to artists and arts administrators throughout the River Region who want to make a difference in their communities.  This workshop will help us to find new, creative ways for engaging members of our communities in building up and improving our quality of life through the arts.

We will be practicing social distancing at Doster Center and will have masks and hand sanitizing stations during the meeting. The representatives of Americans for the Arts will join us by Zoom because of travel restrictions, but have sent lots of informational handouts for attendees and will not only speak about their experiences throughout the country, but also will be available to answer questions.

Thank you for your support of the arts in Prattville and the River Region!
