Two churches, two pastors and two groups of musically talented people combined together creating something beautiful Sunday afternoon in Millbrook.

In a Combined Community Prayer Service at Village Green, Lake Elam Missionary Baptist Church and Millbrook Presbyterian Church brought their congregations together as one.

MPC Pastor Brannon Bowman and Lake Elam MBC Pastor Gary Jackson had been discussing joining together for a prayer service, and incorporated the idea of inviting the community as well. Through prayer and music the two congregations mingled, mixed and made new friendships. Members from area communities also came to join the service.

Hopefully, both pastors said, this is just the first of future combined worship services, as one people on a mission to spread the word of God. They will also encourage community involvement.

An offering was taken up during the service, with all donations being given to the WELCOME Food Pantry of Millbrook.

“It is important to feed both the body and the soul,” Bowman said, praising WELCOME and their continued efforts to reach out to those less fortunate in difficult times.

Jackson and Bowman both spoke of religion, and how it is not based on a skin color, income, or status in life. The important part, is that people from all different backgrounds come together for one purpose: To glorify God and give Him praise.

On stage with the pastors throughout the event were members of a team sharing their musical abilities with the crowd. Members represented both congregations and had been practicing together for the last couple of weeks in preparation.

A beautiful, Fall day, beautiful music and lots of smiles filled Village Green Park in an event which will hopefully be repeated many times.

Both of these churches have a long history in the Millbrook community. We will be speaking with pastors and members of both in the near future for a historical perspective of how the churches have impacted this area in a positive way. SEE MORE PHOTOS BELOW.
