Governor’s Safer-At-Home Order Includes Changes to Help Family Members Visit Loves ones Visiting Hospitals

FROM ELMORE COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

Gov. Kay Ivey announced updates this week to the Safer-At-Home Order, which includes continuing the statewide mask ordinance for another five weeks. The new order is scheduled to expire at 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 8th.

The governor also made changes to the order making it easier for family members to visit loved ones who need caregivers, and for patients and residents in hospitals and nursing homes/long-term care facilities to receive visitors. Residents and patients will now be allowed to have one visitor at a time. Other sanitation, occupancy limits and social distancing guidelines remain unchanged.

The governor’s current order was originally set to expire today at 5:00 pm. The governor cited the November election as a primary reason for continuing the mask ordinance, sanitation and social distancing guidelines. The governor and State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris also spoke about the state’s preparations for a vaccine and said that supplies in the beginning will be limited and that at-risk populations and healthcare providers will be prioritized.
