Elmore County and the City of Wetumpka Partner to Open Collection Facility

FROM THE ELMORE COUNTY COMMISSION

Beginning Wednesday March 4, 2020, the Elmore County Commission in partnership with the City of Wetumpka will open a centrally located collection facility. This facility is intended for Elmore County residents who are paying customers of the county’s and/ or city’s curbside trash collection program. The collection facility will replace the previous once a month countywide cleanup day. The new collection facility will be open seven days a week to the public. Disposal of authorized items will be allowed throughout all hours of the day unless misuse of the facility begins.

The collection facility is not intended for contractors as the facility is designed for residents to dispose of items larger in size or quantity than their normal residential containers can accommodate.

Items that will not be accepted include appliances, batteries, paints or thinners, oils and gases. All tree limbs must be no longer than four feet and no more than six inches in diameter. These operating rules are the same as past countywide cleanup events. In addition, citizens will have opportunities to dispose of items that can be recycled. Cardboard, paper and plastics will be the initial recyclable materials being segregated.

Abuse of the facility will result in limited access to the facility along with the potential for prosecution for illegal dumping. The collection facility is located adjacent to the Wetumpka Street Department at 110 Red Eagle Drive, Wetumpka, AL 36092.

Anyone with specific questions about the collection facility can send questions to trash@elmoreco.org.
