City of Prattville Celebrates Groundbreaking for Police Annex and Fire Station Number Four

By Andrew Edwards, Staff Writer

On Friday, February 21, City of Prattville officials and local law enforcement gathered at the location for the new police annex and fire station.

The building, which is under construction and located on the corner of Old Farm Lane and Old Ridge Road in Prattville, is currently projected to be completed in November 2020 – with it being completely open and operational by December 1, 2020.

With a shovel in hand, Mayor Bill Gillespie had much to say about the new project that the city is undertaking.

“This was a vision that the City of Prattville has had since 2008. We’ve had a lot of growth on that side of the city with the housing boom in many of those neighborhoods. And with the interstate so close, there tends to be wrecks and what not. So, we really felt like having a closer presence for our law enforcement on that side of the city was necessary,” Gillespie said.

The construction company for the project, which was approved in January 2020, is Webb Builders Inc. It was determined that the building would cost $3,718,000.

The city says that no new firefighters will be hired for the station, but that the PD budget will allow for a few new police officers to be housed on the annex side.

“This is another accomplishment that the city has been able to pull together for the community,” Gillespie said. “No one person can do everything. Through the hard work of a lot of people involved, we’ve been able to see this come into fruition.”
