FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON, MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Monday, December 23, 2019, detectives from the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit, the Warrant Unit and officers from the Patrol Division served (4) outstanding Robbery 1st Degree warrants on Jordan T. Epkins, a 17 year old Millbrook resident, pursuant to (2) separate incidents that occurred on November 27, 2019 and December 22, 2019. Epkins was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where he was processed. Epkins was transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under a $400,000 bond. Due to the severity of the crimes that Epkins is charged with, each count being a Class A Felony, he will be charged and prosecuted as an adult.

On November 27, 2019, Millbrook police officers responded to the 100 block of Mountain Ridge Road with regard to an armed robbery that had occurred at a residence. Two juveniles, ages fourteen and sixteen years old reported that they were approached by two black males, who exited a tan colored Chevy Tahoe, driven by a white female. One of the males pulled his shirt up, revealing a handgun concealed in his waistband. The suspect demanded both victims give up their cell phones and cash. The victims complied and both males returned to the vehicle, which was last seen traveling towards Camp Grandview Road. There were no injuries reported in the incident.

On Sunday, December 22, 2019, Millbrook police responded to the 2300 Block of Main Street with regard to a report of an armed robbery that had occurred. Two juveniles, both seventeen years of age, state that they were standing in front of a business in the 2300 block of Main Street when they were approached by Jordan Epkins and an unidentified black male, who asked for a ride to a nearby residence. Epkins allegedly went into the residence and returned to the victim’s vehicle brandishing a handgun. Both victims state that Epkins demanded that they give him their cell phones and any cash that they had. One of the victims was struck several times when he refused to unlock his cell phone. Both suspects were last seen walking southbound on Main Street, towards Water Drive.

We are extremely pleased to announce the arrest of a suspect in these cases. Our investigators and officers did an outstanding job in getting this suspect identified, obtaining warrants of arrest and getting this individual in custody quickly and without incident. Our lead investigator in this case anticipates additional charges being filed against Mr. Epkins. While serving the warrants officers observed a canine inside a vehicle that was restrained in chains and appeared to be in distress. Officers contacted our Animal Control Officer, who responded to the scene and took possession of the animal. The vehicle, which may contain additional evidence of these and other crimes, was impounded and a search warrant will be obtained. At the very least we may pursue Animal Cruelty charges against the responsible party.

Our detectives are still attempting to identify the other individuals that were involved in both incidents. Both of those individuals will face the same charges as Epkins, once identified. We are blessed that these types of violent crimes do not occur in our city on a daily or regular basis. We take incidents like these very seriously. We don’t want people like this on our streets. I appreciate the Elmore County District Attorney’s Office and our judges working with us to send a clear message. That message being, you commit violent crimes like armed robbery against our citizens…….we will identify and apprehend you and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Should you be found guilty by a jury, you will be held accountable. It’s the way it has to be. No one deserves to have a weapon pointed at them, have their lives threatened, and their property taken.
