The Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual “Joy of Giving” Luncheon Dec. 12 at the Catfish House of Prattville.

The luncheon is a way to celebrate the progress of the Chamber each year, and also select an area agency to benefit from member donations. This year the Millbrook Senior Center was the recipient of $500 in donations.

Olivia Venable is the Director of the Millbrook Senior Center and was very grateful for the support. The funds will be used to purchase new games for the Seniors in the day program offered Monday-Friday.

It was announced recently that the City of Millbrook received a $250,000 grant which will be put toward building a new Senior Center for the program. It will be located across from City Hall on Grandview Road. Currently there are two condemned buildings on the property which was purchased by the City. Those buildings will soon be demolished and in its place will be the new Senior Center.

“This was something we were very excited about and committed to doing regardless, but the grant was a big help!” Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley said.

As for Venable, the smile on her face as she talked about the new Center said it all.

“I just cannot tell you how excited all of us at the Millbrook Senior Center are about this, and what the future holds or us,” Venable said. “We are like a family, and this opportunity will allow us to expand activities and have a home just for our area seniors.”

Venable and her day-program residents attended the luncheon and entertained the crowd with several Christmas Carols.

“We are so thankful for the support that we receive from the City of Millbrook, the Grandview YMCA and the community,” Venable said. “For years the program has been based at the Memorial Center, but we really have outgrown that. It has been a blessing. We encourage area Seniors who are interested in our day program to come and join us! We have so much fun, and with a new, bigger location we are so excited about the future.”
