PHOTOS: With Honor and Respect, American Flags Retired at American Legion Post 133 in Millbrook Today

As smoke billowed into the sky on Veterans Day at American Legion Post 133 in Millbrook a scan of the crowd found a range of emotions on the faces of Veterans and families present.

They were gathered to attend an official American Flag Retirement Ceremony, the only time when the burning of an American flag is acceptable. Before the flags were destroyed, they were inspected by officers with the Post and due respect given. The American Flags were deemed damaged and unserviceable for further duty.

The American flags had been folded one last time and were placed on a table. Each person in attendance was offered the opportunity to pick up a flag and place it in the fire in memory of someone they loved, and/or served with in the military.

If you have an old American Flag that should be retired, please drop it off at the American Legion Post 133 in Millbrook.

We take this time to honor all Veterans, in times of war or peace, for their service to this amazing country we call home. There will never be enough words to adequately thank them. So many shrug it off when the thank yous come, simply saying, “I just did what I had to do. There were others that sacrificed a lot more. ”

Yes, that may be true. But we are blessed by your service. Thank you.

“It is time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget: that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots, we all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American Flag.” Donald Trump
