A Tallassee man was arrested Oct. 15 by the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, and made bond, after he was charged with Rape First Degree and Sexual Abuse First Degree of a 15-year-old female.
According to Sheriff Bill Franklin, Chris McWaters, 32, turned himself in to authorities. Bond was set at $60,000 for the rape and $15,000 for the sexual abuse. He was able to make bond and was released the same day.
The case will go before an Elmore County Grand Jury perhaps in January, Franklin said.
“I want to be careful here because of the age of the victim, so we don’t have a lot of details to release,” Franklin said. “While it was being investigated, we learned that the reported victim is familiar with McWaters, so this was not a stranger, but someone she was acquainted with.”
