Wetumpka High School Senior Brody Worrell has played for the Indians’ varsity soccer team for four seasons, and during that time, he has made a big mark on the program. Worrell has been spectacular on the field. In his senior season, he has scored 35 goals and has 20 assists. For his Wetumpka career, Worrell has scored 65 goals and 42 assists. As a junior, Worrell was named Elmore County Player of the Year by the Wetumpka Herald. And while Worrell is proud of the honor of being named the county’s Player of the Year, he is quick to credit the support of his teammates as an important part of his success.

“I was able to receive that award after a great team season, our first time making it to the 2nd round of playoffs. I would not have been able to receive such an award without the greatness of my teammates as well. Everything I accomplish is because of their ability to push me to do my best in practice and always have my back,” said Worrell.

As a team, the Indians are currently ranked in the Top 10 of Class 6A Coaches’ Poll heading into the final week of the 2024 season before playoffs start. They have 53 wins over a four-year period. They’ve won the Class 6A Area 3 championship in back-to-back seasons. Last year the Indians won a Class 6A playoff game and advanced to the 2nd round for the first time in Worrell’s career.  He’s hoping for more this season.

“Our main goal this year is to make it to the Final Four,” said Worrell. “I know we can do that, but we have to stay focused and disciplined the whole way. Take it game by game. We will play some very good opponents who deserve it all as well, but we want it more than anyone else out there.”

After his senior season with the Indians is complete, Worrell will continue his soccer career at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Worrell signed a college scholarship with UAH last week.

“One of the main reasons I picked UAH was because of the beautiful campus and city. The campus is amazing, and the city has just about anything you could ask for. The academics at UAH are also top notch. I also really enjoyed being around the team and coaches. They are a family and that’s just what I want.”

Worrell knows that succeeding at UAH both athletically and academically will be challenging, but he’s ready. “Athletically, I just want to become the best soccer player I can become. It will take loads of discipline and hard work, but that’s what it’s all about. Academically, I look to get a degree in Business and make the most of my time there. I just hope to learn a lot and graduate knowing I did my best.”
